Football Trials in Spain 2026
Football trials in Spain in 2026. How La Liga cantera academies recruit, what pruebas look like and how foreign players land a trial.
Spanish football is built on the cantera. Every La Liga and Segunda club runs a youth pyramid from Alevin through Cadete, Juvenil and reserve teams playing competitive league football against senior sides.
Trial entry is more relationship based than in England or Germany. A reference from a Spanish federation coach, a Spanish agent or a sister club opens almost every door. Cold applications are answered far less often than in the UK.
Key steps
- 1
Get a Spanish reference if possible
An invitation from a Spanish coach, agent or scout massively increases your chance of a real trial slot.
- 2
Apply to multiple clubs at the same level
Segunda and Primera RFEF clubs run more accessible pruebas than La Liga giants. Reaching one of those opens the next step.
- 3
Send a Spanish language CV
A short presentacion in Spanish with stats and video link is the minimum expected. Include your posicion, perfil and altura.
- 4
Time it around July pre temporada
Most Spanish trials happen in July and early August before the new season. Mid season trials are rare.
- 5
Plan visas and TPO carefully
Non EU players need a federation transfer certificate. EU players still need NIE registration to sign federation forms.
Frequently asked questions
How do La Liga clubs recruit youth players?
Through their cantera coaches who watch local games every weekend, partner clubs in Spain and abroad, and a small number of advertised pruebas held each summer.
Can a foreign player join La Masia or other top academies?
Yes, but FIFA international transfer rules restrict moves below age 18 except in defined cases. Most foreign signings at top La Liga academies happen at 16 plus.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Conversational Spanish is strongly advised. Training instructions are in Spanish and integration with team mates depends on it.
