American soccer recruitment splits cleanly into two systems. The professional pathway runs through MLS Next and MLS Next Pro into MLS first teams. The college pathway runs through NCAA Division I, II and III soccer and feeds USL and lower MLS rosters.
Both systems are accessible to outside and international players, but the entry points and timing are completely different to European football.
